There was a Dharma Sandesha Yatra that happened in Kerala, in which all the saints across the length and breadth of Kerala from various Ashrams unified to send a message of Dharma to its people.
When the Dharma Sandesha Yatra started in Kerala from 7th
October 2025 to 21st October 2025 covering 14 districts from
Kasaragod to Trivandrum in a 14-day period, I wondered, how would it be received
by the people of Kerala. Would they turn up to listen to these sadhus and
saints or just push it back, saying they are busy with their life and it was
not for them.
Second, I wondered how long could the unity within the saint’s
community, with their huge egos and acharams would stay, presumably the big
Ashrams, and mutts together in one roof would usually cause friction.
Third for any yatra to be completed, there would be a
requirement of selfless people to organize such an events across various
districts.
Fourth and more importantly, would the ruling party of Kerala
the Left, welcome them with open arms?
I was pretty amazed and surprised to see the response, it
was well organised, people attended in good numbers, there was grand welcome reception
given to the sanyasis across all the districts. There were children
participating in various events in few parts, which was encouraging. There was
a unified pledge taken by all the participants, which had been established
after deliberations and talks with various saints and Ashrams muttadipatis.
Mind you, one event or a satsang may not bring about a change in the future in the life of the participant or the district or state, but
it gives a great energy and booster for saints to lead and show the message of
Dharma to its people. As Mata Amritanandayamayi’s message on this, “let this be
just the beginning for many more activities to be accomplished.”
Along with all the other problems like drugs, mental health etc.,
the educated youth does not seem to be connected to its roots, hence we see the
brain drain. We see a disconnect from the NRI’s and the youth who plan to go abroad
at the first available opportunity. The saints seemed to be in congruence with
the aspect and how to pass the practical usage of Vedanta from one generation
to the next, in a way understood by them.
I am sure the youth today in very open and receptive to listen and
accept things which are useful for their lives, but don’t understand much about
being a Hindu, other than visiting temples.
A short note on Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
VHP to me came across as a part of Hindu fanatics till now,
as per the media it seems to be the root of all religions fanatism in India.
VHP was formed in 1964 when RSS leaders M. S. Golwalkar and
S. S. Apte in collaboration with Swami Chinmayananda Saraswati along with discussions
with various akharas and mutts including the four Shankaracharya’s, discussed
to establish a political party.
Margadarshakamandalam a part of VHP organised this Dharma
Sandesha Yatra under the leadership of Swami Chidananda Puri from Advaitashramam, Kolathur.
I might say I was a bit concerned when I heard the name VHP,
if the messaging/speeches would be hate speeches like our politicians or a rant
against the new generation but I rested believing that the chief patron was
none other than Mata Amritanandamayi Devi.
The messages/speeches by Swami Chidananda Puri were
reflecting of its times, well rooted in Vedanta and showed the path of dharma.
Just like Swami Vivekananda got the vision of one
India and understood that the nation's strength lay in integrating its
spiritual heritage with the needs of its people after meditating in
Kanyakumari. Similarily the message of Dharma given by the saints in this
Dharma Sandesha Yatra echoed with the audience in accordance with the changing
times.
A big shout out for all the people/organisations/saints/ashrams
who made this yatra a grand success.
